The trackstick is 20 in the diagram, between the keys just above your mystery buttons. Since most of my laptop work involves typing, I cannot stand to take my fingers off the keyboard to use either a touchpad or a mouse. The only thing Dell’s pointing stick has going for it is a scroll button that lets you move up and down web pages. IBM sold a mouse with a pointing stick in the location where a scroll wheel is common now. It seems that only the single least expensive configuration misses it, and you can’t choose to change it, you just need to take one of the more expensive configurations. So far, I feel a little frustrated with the pointing stick because slower speeds require a lot of force, and faster speeds make it hard to do anything precise, as if I’m trying to use it at the limit of its sensitivity.

The mouse buttons can be operated right-handed or left-handed due to their placement below the keyboard along the centerline. The rim adheres to my fingertip and helps distribute pressure evenly. So I am asking you your opinion on their new design with the buttons “blended in” with the touchpad? On a related note, thanks to the trackkstick being easily detachable delll that, you should be able to use ThinkPad trackpoint caps, which some people report have a better feel than the ones Dell and HP use.
